From 22–26 August 2026, the AMEE Conference 2026 will take place in Vienna – an international event dedicated to education in the health professions and health sciences. Participation in the conference will be possible both in person and online.
The first plenary session will be delivered by Brian Hodges from the University Health Network and the University of Toronto. His presentation will focus on the role of examinations in the learning process and on supporting metacognition in the era of artificial intelligence.
The second plenary session will be delivered by Pim Teunissen from Maastricht University. It will focus on reflecting on the contemporary purpose of health professions education and its adaptation to rapid social and technological change.
The third and closing plenary session will be given by Vishna Devi V Nadarajah from IMU University. It will address issues of humanising medical education, the role of knowledge, and the importance of global connectedness in the education of future healthcare professionals.
The conference programme is still provisional and may be subject to change. However, the organisers announce a wide and diverse range of sessions, workshops, and symposia.
A particular focus is placed on pre-conference activities aimed at participants at different stages of their professional careers. These include training sessions and workshops dedicated to educational innovation and modern assessment methods.
A strong emphasis is placed on the role of artificial intelligence in education. Among the proposed activities are workshops on the ethical and responsible use of generative AI in medical education.
Other sessions focus on the design of educational simulations and the modernisation of teaching methods and educational systems. Participants will also be able to take part in sessions on rethinking assessment in the context of AI development.
All pre-conference activities require prior registration and an additional fee.
