Biological or chemical contamination
If contamination has occurred, or you suspect contamination, notify the porter/security staff immediately or call the University emergency number: +48 71 784 19 91. You can also contact emergency services directly by calling 112.
If you are inside a contaminated building:
- Stay inside and warn others about the danger.
- close all doors and windows, turn off air conditioning and fans, and seal or close any vents;
- avoid basements and lower floors;
- avoid unnecessary use of oxygen;
- protect your airways (e.g., with a tissue or scarf);
- Wait for emergency services and follow their instructions.
If contamination has occurred in a room:
- do not touch or smell suspicious items, and do not attempt to wipe up liquids or clean up powders;
- to prevent the substance from spreading, cover it (e.g., with a blanket);
- close all windows and doors, turn off air conditioning, and avoid creating drafts;
- leave the contaminated room and do not allow others to enter;
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Do not touch your face, eyes, or mouth with unwashed hands;
- remove clothing that has come into contact with the suspected substance;
- after contact with suspected substances, do not eat, drink, or smoke;
- Wait for emergency services and follow their instructions.
If contamination has occurred outdoors:
- Go to the nearest accessible building.
- try to move at right angles to the wind direction and protect your airways (e.g., with a tissue or scarf);
- allow others from the affected area into the building;
- wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water — do not touch your face, eyes, or mouth with unwashed hands;
- remove clothing that has come into contact with the suspected substance;
- Wait for emergency services and follow their instructions.
