New Postgraduate Programme in Tactical and Crisis Rescue Operations at WMU

Crisis rescue postgraduate programme is a unique educational initiative in Poland combining advanced medical expertise with military operational experience. Launched by Wroclaw Medical University in cooperation with the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces, the programme prepares professionals to operate effectively in extreme and high-risk environments where rapid decision-making and interdisciplinary coordination are essential.

The growing number of armed conflicts, hybrid threats, large-scale disasters and mass-casualty incidents has significantly reshaped the understanding of modern emergency response systems. Today’s crisis response requires close cooperation between civilian healthcare institutions and uniformed services. The crisis rescue postgraduate programme addresses this need by integrating tactical medicine, operational planning and security management into one coherent educational pathway.

Designed by physicians and practitioners with experience in, among others, UN and NATO missions, the curriculum emphasizes intensive field training and realistic mass-casualty simulations. Participants train in conditions reflecting operational environments, learning how to function under time pressure, limited resources and heightened psychological stress. Over two semesters (265 hours), they gain competencies in battlefield medicine, CBRN threat response (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards), medical evacuation procedures, and drone operation (A1/A3 licence).

A strong emphasis is placed on practical skills development, leadership under pressure, and effective communication within civil-military structures. The programme equips participants with the ability to assess risks, prioritize interventions and coordinate multidisciplinary teams in rapidly evolving crisis scenarios.

The crisis rescue postgraduate programme is primarily addressed to professionals from emergency medical services, hospitals, military units, police and fire departments, as well as individuals planning careers in crisis management, humanitarian operations or international peacekeeping missions.

Recruitment begins on 24 February 2026. Admission is limited to 30 participants, and candidates are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
