Prof. Marzena Dominiak, Vice-Rector for Internationalization at Wroclaw Medical University (WMU), has been honored with prestigious “Stars of Internationalization” award in the Science Diplomacy Star category. She received the award on Thursday, January 29, during the closing ceremony of the first day of the conference “International Students in Poland 2026.”
The “Star of Internationalization” has been presented for nine years to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the internationalization of Polish higher education. Recipients are selected by a distinguished panel of representatives from institutions and organizations committed to advancing international collaboration.
Prof. Dominiak has been leading WMU’s internationalization efforts since 2021, initially as Vice-Rector for Development Strategy and currently as Vice-Rector for Internationalization. Her initiatives include the implementation of the Institutional Plan for Intensive Internationalization, which has significantly strengthened WMU’s standing on the global academic stage.
She represents WMU in the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) and within the European University Association (EUA). She has also led the university’s accession to the Magna Charta Observatory and the European University Alliance SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) working group, helping shape innovative trends in higher education.
Prof. Dominiak’s work has driven key strategic goals, including:
- Promoting an internationalized profile of medical education.
- Enhancing the quality of education through international collaboration,
- Implementing innovative teaching methodologies,
- Fostering a culture of evidence-based teaching improvement,

Innovative Teaching and Strategic Projects
Among her notable achievements are the establishment of WMU’s Welcome Center through the “Welcome to Poland” project, and the development of English-language postgraduate programs such as Project Management in Drug Discovery and Development and the European Master Degree in Oral Laser Applications (EMDOLA). She also leads the Master of European Oral Implantology program, the only one of its kind in Poland and one of just three in Europe.
Currently, WMU is implementing the European Universities Support Project: “Developing WMU’s Internationalization through Synergistic and Complementary Actions in Teaching and Research in Collaboration with the EUGLOH European University Alliance” under the NAWA programme.
An Internationally Recognized Expert
In addition to her administrative role, Prof. Dominiak heads the Department of Oral Surgery at WMU, which hosts numerous student and research exchange programs with institutions worldwide. She has participated in over 40 international research projects in implantology and tissue regeneration, contributing to the development of advanced clinical treatments. The results of these projects are widely applied in clinical practice and integrated into international educational programs.
She currently leads the international project “Integrating Peri-Implantitis Research into Higher Education Curriculum – Developing and Integrating Evidence-Based Teaching Materials and Clinical Tools,” addressing one of the most common post-implant inflammatory conditions worldwide.
Through her visionary leadership, Prof. Marzena Dominiak continues to strengthen WMU’s global presence, advancing both the quality of education and research while fostering meaningful international collaboration.
