Japanese Students Visit Wroclaw Medical University

In the Department of International Relations Office, we recently had the honor of hosting students from the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) in Japan – a renowned medical university offering education in the fields of health sciences, medicine, pharmacy, and related disciplines. The university has several campuses (including in Odawara, Narita, and Fukuoka) as well as an extensive clinical base, which enables the close integration of teaching with medical practice.

The visit was of a study nature and included an intensive academic and introductory program. The guests visited the Anatomy Museum of Wroclaw Medical University, where they became acquainted with the collection of anatomical specimens and the history of anatomy teaching, as well as the UMW Museum of Pharmacy, which presents the development of pharmacy over the centuries.

The program also included a visit to the University Clinical Hospital on Borowska Street, during which the students had the opportunity to learn about the organization of work in a modern medical facility and its clinical and educational infrastructure.

An important element of the visit was a meeting with the Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Prof. Marzena Dominiak, which created an opportunity to discuss prospects for international cooperation, including academic exchange and joint educational and research initiatives.

The guests also had the opportunity to explore the cultural heritage of Wroclaw by visiting the Centennial Hall – one of the most significant examples of modernist architecture in Poland.

The workshop sessions were held at the University’s Welcome Centre. One of their components was a presentation prepared by IUHW students, outlining the structure of education, research activities, and the functioning of the healthcare system in Japan. Participants also took part in handicraft workshops, learning how to create buttons from fragments of traditional Japanese kimono fabric, as well as in origami classes. The exchange of experiences constituted a valuable source of knowledge and inspiration for both sides.

On the final day of the visit, we met again at the Welcome Centre, where, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the guests had the opportunity to taste traditional Polish dishes. It was an excellent moment to summarize the visit, engage in further discussions, and strengthen the relationships that had been established.

We would like to thank our Guests for their visit and for the meaningful and constructive discussions. We hope this meeting helps strengthen cooperation between our universities and leads to new joint initiatives in the future.
