The International Relations Office of the Wroclaw Medical University organized a unique online event on March 27, 2026, titled “On the Frontline: Pediatric Care with Doctors Without Borders.” The meeting attracted great interest – the number of registrations significantly exceeded the organizers’ expectations, confirming the growing interest among students in humanitarian medicine.
The guest speaker was dr Agnieszka Czaplińska, a pediatric specialist at Klinikum Stuttgart and a physician working with Doctors Without Borders. During her talk, she presented her experiences from a mission in South Sudan in an engaging and accessible way. She described the realities of working in a humanitarian crisis setting, with particular emphasis on the challenges of providing care to pediatric patients.
Dr. Czaplińska also introduced the activities of Doctors Without Borders, outlining the organization’s structure and global operations. A particularly popular part of the meeting focused on the recruitment process for humanitarian missions – the speaker explained in detail the requirements that must be met to join medical teams working in regions affected by conflict and disasters.
The meeting was moderated by Katarzyna Kvapilikova from the International Relations Office of Wroclaw Medical University, who ensured the smooth flow of the event. The webinar was also attended by representatives of the organization’s headquarters – Kaja Pietrewicz and Olga Rosenbaum. They emphasized that it had been a long time since they had seen such strong student engagement during this type of event.
Participant activity was one of the highlights of the meeting – students eagerly asked numerous questions, showing great interest in both the practical aspects of working in the field and career development opportunities within international organizations.
The event was not only a valuable source of knowledge but also an inspiration for future doctors considering involvement in humanitarian work.
