On May 18th, the GEM Football Field in Wrocław hosted a unique sporting event bringing together the international academic community of our city — a friendly football match between the English-speaking team of Wroclaw Medical University and the English-speaking team of the University of Wrocław. The event was organized by the International Relations Office of Wroclaw Medical University in cooperation with the AZS UMW University Sports Club.
The event was officially opened by Ms Magdalena Szymków-Cieniawska, Head of the International Relations Office, who warmly welcomed the players and supporters gathered at the venue. Following a short opening speech, both teams posed for a commemorative group photo, completed their warm-up session, and the exciting match began.
From the very first whistle, the game was filled with sporting excitement and great commitment from both teams. The match was highly competitive, with both sides fighting for every inch of the field until the very last minutes. The WMU team maintained a 1:0 lead for a long time, but the University of Wrocław team never gave up. Their determination and spirit of fair play led to a dramatic equalizer in the final moments of the game. In the end, the match finished in a draw — a result that perfectly reflected the level and dedication of both teams.
After the match, players, coaches, and the referee received commemorative gifts. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, supporters came to enthusiastically cheer on their teams, creating a fantastic atmosphere throughout the evening. The event was marked by a truly international spirit of cooperation, integration, and sportsmanship, once again proving that sport has the power to bring people together across cultures and backgrounds.

We hope this is just the beginning of a wonderful sporting tradition, and we are already looking forward to the rematch, which will hopefully take place this autumn!
